I am currently a freshman studying mechanical engineering at the University of California, Berkeley. While the study of Islamophobia was unfamiliar to me, I thought that the course description was intriguing - I grew up in a community that was predominantly Caucasian and Muslim, and through the eyes I have developed through this course I have gained a deeper understanding of racism as a social construct and of course Islamophobia as a threat to social civility and function.
